She is a very clever witch. She has warned them that if they burn her, they will all be cursed unless they free her from the fire.
The people do not believe in her power to curse them, so they laugh and jeer at her.
Patiently she waits. When the fire starts, the people gasp in horror at what they see. The tattoos on her body start glowing brightly! She tilts her head back and laughs, and shouts, 'See? What did I tell you! The curse is starting already! Release me before it is too late!' And she laughs again like a fiend from Hell!
The flames are almost too high now, but her executioner is trembling with fear at the mysterious tattoo designs that are brighter than the sun! "She is the Devil's favorite!" he gasps. He orders that she be released and banished to the wilderness.
Later that evening, in her home deep in the forest, the witch relaxes in front of a roaring fire in the fireplace. Her cat sits on her lap, purring with contentment. The designs on her skin are still glowing.
"Those silly people!" she says with a smile to her cat, as she strokes its fur. "Imagine that! Being so afraid of my tattoos! They did not know it, but the tattoos are not witch's magic. I did the designs using a phosphorescent ink. The ink always glows when the light of a wood fire excites it! I was lucky they wanted to burn me instead of hang me!"
